It was the celebration of Father’s Day last month when we decided to visit Ostrich and Crocodile Farm in Opol, Misamis Oriental. A 30mins drive from the town proper of Opol, Misamis Oriental and approximately 14.5 kilometers away from the city proper of Cagayan de Oro City. If you’ve planned to visit CDO soon, don’t forget to include this biggest huddling of big birds in your itinerary for a budgeted travel.

Ostrich Farm

How to get there:

Via Public Transportation:

Get to Opol via jeepney from Cagayan de Oro City. The landmark will be Opol Public Market or Panagatan Seafood Restaurant. At the back of Opol Public Market, there are numbers of Habal-habal(single motorcycles) that can take you to the farm. For about P50/habal/way that can fit-in 2 persons, you are now ready to go.

Muddy Mountain

The road is not cemented yet so expect some bumps and muddy road. When I say muddy, it is really mud men! LOL…Bring an off-road car with you. Too bad for us we brought Celerio and it got some scratches afterwards but that doesn’t bother us anyways.

Ostrich Eggs

Ostrich eggs are really big and we intend to ride at the back of the ostriches to take pictures but then we are shaken that they might hit us with their beaks. Taking pictures behind their cage are good enough for us =) But I recommend that its a must-try to eat Ostrich meat, it is so yum! You can order BBQ Ostrich meat in Cucina de Oro at P30/stick.

3 wks old Ostrich

What to expect:
Aside from the Ostrich, there are also two cages for the crocodiles and a flock of sheep. Check the baby ostrich they are so cute, they looks like chicken. Bigger than a chicken indeed even at their 3 weeks old.

Caption: Do not throw anything to the crocodile
